About

The Great Lakes Fire History Digital Archive is a working, evolving digital archive that illustrates and organizes primary source documents pertaining to forest fires in the Great Lakes in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The Great Lakes Fire History Digital Archive is created and maintained by Dr. Hayden L. Nelson, a research historian at the Minnesota Historical Society.

Hayden first had the idea for creating this project in 2023, when he was writing an article on the legacies of forest fires and their smoke in the Upper Midwest

For more about the creator and curator of this digital archive, see Hayden's personal website. For any comments or suggestions about the Great Lakes Digital Archive, please share them through the Contact form at the top of the page.
