Description

A newspaper report describing a forest fire that burned Osceola County, Michigan, in 1877. The report is a firsthand account of the fire, providing some excellent commentary on the sensory experience of it and the responses of livestock and wildlife. As the correspondent wrote: "Just before the flames reached the clearing the ground trembled as it did around Gettysburg when 500 pieces of artillery thundered away for hours."
